National Workshop on DSI and Synthetic Biology
The National Workshop on “Digital Sequence Information and Synthetic Biology: India’s Priorities and Preparations for COP17”, organised by the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) under the guidance of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, commenced on 10 September 2026 at Radisson Blu, Hyderabad. The workshop brings together senior officials, experts, scientists, researchers and stakeholders to deliberate on emerging issues relating to DSI and Synthetic Biology under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

16th National Meeting of State Biodiversity Boards (SBBs)/Union Territory Biodiversity Councils(UTBCs)
The 16th National Meet of State Biodiversity Boards & Union Territory Biodiversity Councils was held on 6th –7th September 2026 at Hotel Mountview, Chandigarh. The event brought together State Biodiversity Boards and UT Biodiversity Councils from across the country to deliberate on strengthening biodiversity governance and conservation efforts. The meet was graced by Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, as Chief Guest. Shri Bhupender Yadav, Hon'ble Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, presided over the event. Rao Narbir Singh, Hon'ble Minister for Environment, Forest and Wildlife, Government of Haryana, graced the occasion as guest of honour.

World Day to Combat Desertification
The World Day to Combat Desertification is annually observed on 17th June with an aim to strengthen the visibility of the dry lands issue and to highlight the need to curb desertification process.

The International Day for Biological Diversity
The United Nations has proclaimed May 22 The International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues. When first created by the Second Committee of the UN General Assembly in late 1993, 29 December (the date of entry into force of the Convention of Biological Diversity), was designated The International Day for Biological Diversity. In December 2000, the UN General Assembly adopted 22 May as IDB, to commemorate the adoption of the text of the Convention on 22 May 1992 by the Nairobi Final Act of the Conference for the Adoption of the Agreed Text of the Convention on Biological Diversity.
